Pad Selection Guide

Choose The Right Pad
For The Paint Condition

A polishing pad controls how much correction power reaches the paint, how much heat is created and how clean the final finish looks. Before choosing a pad, check the defect level, panel size and whether you are cutting, refining or finishing.

Use stronger pads for oxidation, deep scratches and heavy swirl marks. Use medium foam pads for regular correction. Use soft finishing foam when the goal is gloss, clarity and a swirl-free finish.

Size Guide

Which Pad Size
Should You Choose?

Use larger pads for broad panels and smaller pads for controlled correction around edges, bumpers, pillars, mirrors and tighter areas.

Large Panels

125/140 mm

Best for doors, bonnet, roof and large painted panels. Faster coverage and more efficient correction on open surfaces. Approx. 5 / 5.5 in pad face.

Precision Areas

80/90 mm

Best for bumpers, pillars, curved areas, motorcycles and tight body lines. More control with less risk around edges. Approx. 3 / 3.5 in pad face.

Pad Thickness

20 mm

Basic Pad foam models use a 20 mm profile, giving a stable balance between control, pressure transfer and machine feedback during polishing.

Polishing Pad Guide

Frequently Asked
Questions

Practical answers for choosing foam and wool polishing pads for car detailing, paint correction and final finishing.

Which polishing pad should I use first?

FAQ 01

Start with the least aggressive pad that can correct the defect. For heavy oxidation or deep scratches, use Pro Wool or Basic Pad Heavy Cut. For moderate swirls, start with Basic Pad Cut.

What is the difference between cutting and finishing pads?

FAQ 02

Cutting pads remove defects faster but can leave haze on some paints. Finishing pads are softer and are used to refine gloss, remove light micro-marring and improve clarity after correction.

When should I use a wool polishing pad?

FAQ 03

Use a wool pad when you need stronger cut than foam, especially on neglected paint, sanding marks, oxidation or deeper defects. After wool correction, refine the paint with a foam pad.

What is a one-step polishing pad for?

FAQ 04

A one-step pad is designed to combine correction and finishing in one polishing process. It is useful when you want better gloss and defect reduction without a full multi-stage correction.

Should I choose 80/90 mm or 125/140 mm?

FAQ 05

Choose 125/140 mm for larger panels and faster coverage. Choose 80/90 mm for bumpers, mirrors, pillars, tight curves and smaller working areas where control matters more.

Do these pads work with DA and rotary polishers?

FAQ 06

Yes. Work Stuff polishing pads are designed for machine polishing workflows and can be used with compatible dual-action and rotary polishers when the backing plate size matches the pad.
